1. Less Likely to Be StolenFew drivers give consideration to the risk of theft when selecting a color for their vehicle, but statistics suggest that theft should at least be a minor factor drivers keep in mind. Vehicle theft is a serious risk - a vehicle is stolen every 44 minutes according to FBI data - and details from CCC Information Services suggest color plays a role in which vehicles are stolen.
According to CCC Information Services the five most-often stolen vehicle colors are (in order from first to fifth):
- Silver
- White
- Black
- Gold
- Green
Blue is notably absent from this list. While CCC Information Services doesn't explain why, blue vehicles are stolen less often than silver, white, black gold and green ones.
Reducing the risk of theft has a twofold benefit. First, preventing your car and the belongings in it has obvious benefits. Second, being able to avoid a potential insurance claim will help keep your auto premiums from rising because your vehicle was stolen. Blue doesn't completely eliminate these risks, but it significantly reduces them.
2. Likely to Sell Easily
Contrary to what thieves apparently believe, blue vehicles are highly popular. Blue has long been in the top five most popular car colors, and industry experts expect blue to soon overtake white as the number one vehicle color.
Driving a car that's the most popular color has a significant benefit when it comes time to sell the vehicle. More people will consider purchasing a popularly colored vehicle than one that has an offbeat color. If you have a yellow car, for instance, some potential buyers might not buy that vehicle because of its color. You won't have this problem with blue since it is a much more popular color.
3. Less Likely to be Pulled Over
It has been shown that certain cars are ticketed more often than other colors. White is the most-often pulled over color, followed by (in order) red, grey and silver. As is the case with thefts, blue is notably not among the four most-frequently pulled over vehicle colors.
4. Less Likely to Get Dirty Quickly
Any car that's driven through mud or not occasionally washed off will get dirty. A blue vehicle, however, won't get dirty as fast as a white car because blue hides dirt well. While you should still wash your vehicle frequently, you won't have to worry about every little stain showing like you would on a lighter car.
5. More Customizable
One reason for blue cars' rise in popularity is its ability to be customized. There are many different shades of blue. Cars can be metallic or matte blue, bright or dark blue, and more green-, grey- or purpleblue. Other colors, such as white and black, aren't this customizable.
With so many options, you will be able to find a blue that you like and that suits your needs. If you are painting a sports car and want to show it off at auto shows, go for a bright and metallic blue. If you drive clients around, choose a more conservative matte dark blue. Or select any blue in between.
